Ruh Roh.......

I have that introspective feeling, like I am going to type out some heart felt post about my life. I am sure that the disappointment of Michigan playing poorly lingers some. I know that the nightmare roommate situation also hangs over me to a large degree, although since she has moved out, I do have some relief from that. I am not feeling 100% healthy and I can't quite put my finger on what it is that I am feeling, maybe just run down. It is rather disconcerting to feel not completely healthy and realize that if I died here, I would not be found for a LONG time. (no worries, I am not planning on dying). I am planning to take it rather easy today. (although I am in the midst of cleaning the apartment) I will organize the work that remains for the last 3 weeks of the term (final papers, lots of work) and simply rest today. Probably do some of the reading that is required for me to complete the papers, put my feet up and just chill out. I do have a dentist appointment this week and I am going to make a doctor's appointment as well. I also will be contacting MFit to get started back at the gym, now that it is cold, walking outside will be difficult to get motivated for. I also need to make some cash. I know that the winter term is going to MUCH more labor intensive than this term was, so looking for a job locally would be difficult. I need to evaluate that situation as well.....I don't think I will make it on the stipend for the winter term, so a job may be required if my time limits me in consulting. I am very indecisive on this point. Ok, I tried not to be too philosophical this morning and I am very sure this was incredibly boring to read, my apologies. Here is to a beautiful day for each of you....the sun is out here.........I am going to finish cleaning and then put my feet up and rest. Peace.

Just saw that your coach quit. hmmm

Yes, that has been rumored all week and now it is official. It is actually a good thing. He is a wonderful man and has done great things. Now it is time to step down and let someone else take the helm.

Thanks for answering my question on M Zone. I sincerely hope that you feel better soon.

I know that the odds are slim, but I would really like to see UM come to Texas to play in the Alamo Bowl in SA against a Big 12 team. It would be nice to see all the UM fans down here in Texas. It has been awhile since you guys have paid us a visit.

No problem UT, did you find the link? I think Texas would be a great place to play the bowl game. After Saturday's performance I wouldn't blame anyone for passing us over!!

Yes, I got the link and I appreciate that. I have bookmarked it.

Katie, having read most if not all the blogs about Saturday's game, I think many UM fans are being too hard on the team. I know it is THE GAME, and I know the stakes were high, and I know that UM fans are disappointed with the outcome, but you guys were in the game until the very end. I think that UM earned some national respect back on Saturday, particularly given the effort that Henne and Hart put forth trying to play with their injuries. ABC did a lot of close-ups of Henne and he was grimacing noticably on just about every play. It was obvious that he was in pain, yet attempting to give it everything he had in him.

Also, remember that OSU is NOT a bad team. Pardon the analogy, but a lot of historians analyze Lee's defeat at Gettysburg without once mentioning the fact that the Union army was there too. I know some OSU fans down here were predicting a triple digit margin of victory over UM immediately after the APP State game. Well, that certainly didn't happen. The game was a competitive one.

Just some thoughts at random from your friendly neighborhood Longhorn fan. I really do think UM and their fans have NOTHING to hang their heads about regarding this one.

Thanks UT, I understand that they were playing injured. Did you see the screen shot on MgoBlog? that O line was horrid. Seriously we did not even hit over 100 total rushing yards. OSU didn't look great either, we just happened to look worse. In the business world of college football, Henne should have been pulled. However, I really admire Carr for keeping him in, respecting and honoring a young man who wanted to play out his last home game. And, you should know Michigan fans by now, we are never happy, not even when we are ranked #2 and undefeated...which was just LAST season......we want to be undefeated period......which of course is impossible!! ;o)

I saw the screen shot on MgoBlog. And I will admit that less than 100 yards of total offense in a game will not beat many teams.

I have to say that I grew up here in Texas very uneducated as to the intensity of the rivalry between OSU and UM. I figured that nothing could ever match UT-OU or UT-A&M. But since my cousin in Michigan married THE OSU fan and since I have started regularly reading The M Zone, my ignorance is rapidly disappearing. I can feel the rivalry from this distance.

By the way, Katie, UT plays A&M on Friday. Can we count on your support? :)

Absolutely!!! Will it be on TV? I will watch and root for the Longhorns!!!

Yes, I believe the game is on national television. It starts here at 2:30 P.M. which is 3:30 P.M. Michigan time. Game is in College Station this year so the Aggies will be truly fired up, especially since they will not be headed to a bowl. This will be their bowl game.

By the way, the story of Carr's resignation is on page 8 of the sports section of the Dallas Morning News this morning. You can see why I have to rely on the internet to get UM news :).

I will be there! I have a conference call at 3pm on Friday, but will turn it on right after the call.

So just what is the proper battle cry for the longhorns?

UTfan said...

The proper battle cry for the Horns is the famous "Hook 'em Horns" hand sign. There will probably be some brave Longhorn fans who will be at Kyle Field for the game and if you watch the game you will definitely see people doing it.

By the way, Katie, speaking of the "Hook 'em Horns" sign I was going to tell you something that I saw on ABC at the UM-OSU game. I swear to you I am not making this up. Midway to late in the first quarter of the game, ABC was going to a commercial break. Before they went to commercial break, they panned some of the UM supporters on the first row of seats right next to the sidelines. There was a man dressed up in Michigan blue wearing a stocking cap and when the camera got to him he gave the "Hook 'em Horns" sign with BOTH hands. In light of what you said about giving the sign at the game, I wondered if he had talked to you. Anyway, I thought it was a little curious that a Michigan fan was doing that. Not that I objected. I just figured he was getting his game face on for the A&M game on Friday.

Catie said...

Ok, I knew about the hand sign, but that is a bit hard to type out, like....GO BLUE!! So I wondered if you actually say that.....HOOK 'EM HORNS!

Actually there are many Michigan Fans that are fans of the Longhorns, we have great respect for your program (and don't play you often enough to rev up that rivalry feeling), so I am not too surprised to hear of that guy giving the hook 'em sign, and I am sorry that I can not take credit for it!

UTfan said...

Actually, most people just give the hand sign. Occasionally, you will hear someone say "Hook 'em" but not that often. The verbaliztion is implied from the hand sign. We just don't have anything like "Go Blue". UT fans will be loudest when the band plays the fight song, "Texas Fight."

If you watch the game, you may notice that the Aggie fans behave VERY differently from any other fans in the nation. Their student body bills themselves as "The Twelfth Man" and they STAND for the entire game. They don't have cheerleaders; they have yell leaders who give hand signs for all the Aggie yells. From these hand signs, the student body instantly knows which yell is coming up. Also, if you are an Aggie and you take a date to the game, it is tradition that after A&M scores you get to kiss your date. I guess that this means that you have to be careful who you take to the game if you are an Aggie :).

Catie said...

The student section at Michigan stands for the entire game as well, I am fairly sure that they don't kiss their dates on the touchdown though, but then I have not had a date for the game, so I could be wrong. I could start a new tradition though! It sounds like the Longhorns and Aggies are quite the rivalry it will be fun to watch!
